Head of School's Blog - 4 October 2024
We are now about to enter the final two weeks of term and time seems to be flying by! I would like to say thank you again to all the parents who have supported us with our uniform expectations. Uniform may seem like a small thing, but it helps to establish a strong sense of identity and community within our school. When students can feel pride and a sense of belonging, it helps to foster a strong team spirit and higher levels of expectations in conduct and behaviour for learning. All of these behaviours are inter-connected and so important in allowing students to be the best version of themselves.
This week we have had a few sporting fixtures so well done to all the students who have taken up the opportunity to work together and represent the school so well. We have also had a university roadshow for some of our Year 11 students hosted at Christ the King College to help them focus on their post-16 options. Finally, we had excellent attendance at the Year 7 Tutor Evening. Thank you for taking the time to come in and meet with tutors and find out how well your child has settled into school.
Next week, we have our Year 11 Revision Evening on Wednesday 9 October between 5.30 - 7.00 pm. This evening is for both students and parents to attend and, during the evening, you will receive a goodie bag of revision resoures. Mr Wiseman will go through the calendar and give guidance about how to revise and maximise ability. There will also be an opportunity to meet with subjects to discuss how to utilise revision sessions and materials. Please attend this important event in helping students to maximise their success.
I would like to finish off by congratulating our Hot Chocolate Friday winners who secured their place for either a 100% attendance in the last week or were top achievement point winners for their year group. Well done to: Fraser, Freddy, Zoe, Alis, Imogen, Hollie, Megan, Logan, Flyn and Jake.
Have a great weekend.

Recent Student Successes
- Sophie in Year 10 has had two successes this last week. She has worked with the Creative Aspire Hub over the last year on putting together an original track, developing the drum beat and rhythm. This week, the BBC came and filmed her playing drums on the track as part of their televised Children in Need appeal. Additionally, last Saturday, she placed third in a classical ballet competition on the mainland. Well done, Sophie!
- Well done to Harry in Year 9 on being awarded silver in the Warhammer Youngblood category for his 'Armies on Parade' entry.
- Louie in Year 11 has bravely completed a bungee jump to celebrate what would have been his brother's 21st year. In doing this, he has raised an amazing £400 for the Wessex Cancer Trust!
Please do let us know about your child's success outside of school so that we can congratulate them and share their good news. Please email info@medina.iow.sch.uk
