Volunteers from a variety of businesses and professions gave their time and expertise yesterday (22 January 2025) to provide our Year 11 students with an opportunity to experience being interviewed for a job.
To prepare, students were asked to write their CV as if they were applying for a fictional job. They were then invited to attend a professional interview with one of our 12 volunteers.
One student said "It went really well! I was quite nervous but, once I got talking, I actually enjoyed it in the end!". Another said "I'm really glad I made myself go in there and do it!".
It wasn't just the students who enjoyed the experience! One of our volunteers said "These students have worked so hard on their CVs! I've really enjoyed talking to them today and finding out more about their goals and aspirations - they are a credit to this school!"
It was great to see our students embrace the challenge and get so much out of it. As they are now at the point in their lives where they will be applying and having to interview for further education placements, apprenticeships and even jobs, this experience will be invaluable to them all.
Thank you so much to our volunteers: Chris Osborn (NHS); Hector Keir; Danielle Anderson (Johnson Electric); Harpreet Williams (IW College); John Trotter (The Island Careers Partnership); Louise Meredith (University of Portsmouth); John Edwards; Steve Quarmby (Kier Construction Ltd); Emma Crabbe (Power Device UK Ltd); TJ and Beth Mansell (NHS) and Neil Barnes and Simon Attrill (HTP).
