Headteacher's Blog - 24 January 2025
It has been another busy week of events at the school as January passes us by.
Our Year 11 students were involved in careers interviews that were supported by visitors from the local business community who put the students through a series of questions. It was a really positive experience for all involved and incredibly useful. You can read more about this valuable experience on our website: Year 11 Mock Interviews
In the middle of the week, parents and carers for Year 11 were present for their second information evening. It was great to hear of the performance and future prospects and aspirations of our students. It was also another opportunity for me to meet parents and carers, to learn more about the school and local community.
Our Year 10 pupils carried on with their mentoring in violence prevention sessions on this exciting programme. Thank you to everyone involved in this.
At this time of year, we can all be struck down by coughs and colds. It can be difficult to know whether your child is too ill to attend school. NHS guidance is clear that it’s fine to send them in with a minor cough or common cold, provided they don’t have a temperature. Given what we know about how success at school and attendance are linked, it is important that your child continues to attend even if slightly under the weather. The NHS website contains helpful advice on this matter here: Is my child too ill for school?
Finally, we are delighted to be supporting the Island-wide "Wear What Makes You Happy" Mufti Day on Friday 7 February. This has been arranged by the friends of a local teenager, Arlo, who is undergoing treatment for a rare grade 4 brain tumour. Funds are being raised to support him and his family with significant medical expenses. Donations (suggested minimum of £1) can be made via Arbor and students will be permitted to wear what makes them happy for the day.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
