The CEIAG Programme

Medina College is fully committed to the delivery of a quality CEIAG provision for the benefit of all students, to help them fulfil their potential and select a career pathway suited to their skills, abilities and interests. We encourage students to be ambitious for themselves and to actively engage in career planning in all years from Year 7.

All students have access to the Unifrog Careers Platform and they are supported in their Careers Education and use of Unifrog by their tutors during weekly Mentoring sessions. In addition, Careers is embedded throughout the taught curriculum across different subject areas. Further engagement in CEIAG takes the form of:

  • presentations in assemblies
  • events in school (such as the Careers Fair)
  • participation in themed Careers events outside of school
  • workplace visits
  • work related learning and placement opportunities
  • taster days at Universities, Colleges and local businesses
  • access to university opportunities and scholarship programmes
  • career-related programmes such as Young Enterprise and the Bar Mock Trial, competitions and challenges
  • one-to-one guidance provided in school.

The CEIAG programme has been developed in line with the eight Gatsby benchmarks for ensuring best practice, meeting the requirements of the Department for Education’s statutory guidance 2018.

Measuring the impact of our Careers Programme

An important part of the CEIAG programme is evaluation. It is mainly through evaluation that this policy will continue to develop whilst keeping abreast of national changes to CEIAG. Evaluations take place after career-related events in order to determine career outcomes. Students’ access to careers related activities are tracked electronically using Unifrog and Compass+ and are regularly monitored.

Assessment takes place through verbal feedback, written evaluations, student and employer feedback, Unifrog completion and data, and also through analysing destination data. The regular completion and monitoring of the Gatsby Benchmark Compass Tool provides the opportunity to review and evaluate the CEIAG programme as a whole at several points in the year.

Employers

We need your help

Our students are the employees of the future and so we need your help to raise their career aspirations, develop their employability skills and learn more about the exciting industries on the Isle of Wight.

Having employers like you helping to inspire young minds is the foundation of an excellent careers programme. Medina College is lucky to benefit from having a key business volunteer who works with us on a strategic level, encouraging the development of our careers programme and connecting us to the local business community. This role is recognised nationally as an Enterprise Adviser (EA). Our current EA is Steve Quarmby. He would be happy to have a chat with you about getting involved in our programme of activity.
