The Year 8 Boys travelled to Cowes 4G for the final of the IW Secondary Schools Football League v Ryde School. 

Having come top of the round robin table, Medina were confident going into the game. However, Ryde School gave a really good account of themselves in the league game at Medina with Medina narrowly winning 3-2 on that occasion. 

The Year 8 boys have had a settled team throughout the football season which has really helped with team cohesion, camaraderie and consistency.

The game started evenly with some good play from both teams but an early through ball was finished off well by the pacey Sam B. Unfortunately, creative midfielder Max had to come off early with an injury. Caleb replaced him and his pace and power were effective on the big pitch throughout the game. The early goal had settled Medina and the team in green started to pass the ball well, especially down the left hand side, with left footers Logan and Lucas N. Lucas M managed to grab 2 goals before half time to give Medina a 3 goal lead at half time. 

Ryde came out strong in the second half, and tested our strong centre of defence in Archie and captain Drew who have been outstanding all season. Sam B managed to latch onto another ball over the top and finished it off to make it 4-0. Our subs were on for the second half and Dylan and Theo linked up nicely before Theo hit a rasping shot into the top corner only for the Ryde goalie to produce a brilliant save. This gave Ryde some inspiration and they were playing well in the midfield areas. This led to a curling effort from the edge of the box which was saved well by Elliot (in goal) who quickly gathered and sent us on our way to another attack with his great kicking technique. Sam G was busy all game having a great battle with Ryde's quick winger. Mason worked his socks off in the middle of midfield and had to come off late into the game, this brought a triple substitution of Lewis, Ollie and Lucas M who came back on for the last part of the match. With Ryde pushing forward to try and score some goals, this led to some gaps in the defence which Lucas M managed to find and coolly finish for his well deserved Hat trick. Lewis sent the ball over to Ollie. With the ball bouncing, Ollie hit the perfect lob to round off an excellent performance by the 'Green Army' to finish off the football season. 

Head of Year Miss Blackmore, who came to support the lads, said "It was great to see them working so well together as a team. The ability of the boys shocked me, they were so good. An amazing win. I'm a proud Head of Year. They have shown what the Medina community can do when we work together. They showed great sportsmanship and were a credit to the school"   

The boys have played brilliantly winning all their games this season and they have done Medina College and their Football manager proud.
