Advanced Mathematics Support Programme

The Maths Enrichment activity, organised by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP), was a fantastic experience for our Year 9 and Year 10 students.

Taking place on Monday 3 February, the day was filled with engaging challenges and thought-provoking problems, allowing students to develop their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills in new and exciting ways. Through interactive sessions and collaborative tasks, they explored advanced mathematical concepts beyond the classroom curriculum. The event was a great success, with students showing enthusiasm, resilience, and creativity in tackling complex problems. Many left feeling inspired and more confident in their mathematical abilities, making the day a truly rewarding experience for all involved.

Student feedback

"The Maths activity in the small gym was a unique idea and I found it particularly enjoyable. While there was a burst of excitable energy at times which seemed loud, it was interesting to see how the mood shifted at the announcement of prizes. It was a distinctive way to incorporate Maths into real world situations."
Joe P

"We were asked a series of questions that seemed hard at first, but having a further look they were actually quite easy. It required out of the box thinking and teamwork. Working together to complete questions that some team members struggled to complete."
Keryn R

"The competition was a great way to work as a team and for us to form a friendship with people we had never worked with before. It made my confidence in maths better as there were a range of different questions.
As the winning team, the prizes were very good. We got chocolate coins, doughnuts, a smarties chocolate egg, some sweets, a ten pound amazon gift voucher and a scientific calculator."

"We were also informed about A-Level Maths and level 3 Core Maths and the pros about real life application of Maths."
Daniel G

"It was an interesting and good experience."
Mustafa H

"In the Maths competition we had to take part in a series of problem-solving questions using teamwork and our ideas to solve them. This made us feel more confident to work with others because we were all sharing ideas and it wouldn’t matter if we got it wrong because it was fun!"
Alice H

"I think the maths teamwork session on Monday really helped everyone in the year group to recognise their own flaws and ways they could improve when they next work with a group. The questions really challenged you and made you think of ways to solve the questions in a much more simple way. Overall, it was a great experience and I think everyone should have a chance to take part."
