I would like to extend a huge welcome back to all our students and parents/carers.

I really hope you have had a fantastic 5 week break and are ready to embark on a new academic year. September is all about new beginnings and, as I have said to students in assemblies over the last two days, it is important to pause and reflect on the changes that you want to make this year. What is it that you want to do better than you did the year before? What is it that you want to achieve this year?

We are focusing our vision and purpose on what it means to be part of Medina College and being part of the Medina Way. The Medina Way is focused on 3 main words:

READY - Are students ready to learn? Are you ready to make the most of every opportunity that education has to give you?

RESPECT - Are students respecting themselves? Are they respecting each other? Are they respecting staff?

SAFE - Are students acting in a safe manner? Are they keeping each other safe? Do they feel safe?

I stressed to students if at any point they feel there is a barrier to their learning or they don't feel safe, to ensure they speak to their tutor first and then their Head of Year.

An important part of a successful school is the relationship with home. We very much want to hear if you have any concerns or worries. But can I ask that you please ensure that if you want to come in that you make an appointment so we can make sure you see the right member of staff and there is enough time given to you. If you require a phone call, please be patient as staff may be in meetings or teaching, and it might be the end of the day before they can respond.

Finally, just a plea from me about keeping students safe: can we please not park in the bus loop or in staff car park at the beginning or end of the day as it is not safe for students to be crossing that road to meet you.

I very much hope that students have had a positive start to the school year and are looking forward to their first full week back next week. We very much look forward to working with you over this coming school year. Have a lovely weekend!
