Head of School's Blog - 11 October 2024

We are now about to enter the last week of the half term. Please remember we close for our two week October half term break at the end of Friday 18 October and return to school on Monday 4 November.

Thank you, again, for your continued support with uniform. Students are looking very smart and are recognising that a sense of pride and belonging is so important. Attendance has started to drop a little in the last couple of weeks as we enter the season for winter coughs and colds. Students should still be coming in to school unless they have a high temperature. Guidance over when and when not to send a child in is on the NHS website.

This week we have had some key events take place. On Tuesday, flu immunisation took place and on Wednesday evening we had our Revision Evening for Year 11. This was very well attended and the feedback we have had from parents is how valuable they found it in understanding how to support their children through their final year. Don't forget, there is a Year 11 Support page on our website where you can find the comprehensive revision booklet, details of our weekly support sessions, the October half term support session timetable and key dates for the year.

We received some lovely feedback from a parent of a Year 6 student this week who had attended our recent Open Evening. They wrote that our school was the only one they visited where we talked about the child and that, although Medina is large, it doesn't feel overwhelming. Finally, they said that our school had the most hands-on activities for students to try. This kind of feedback is wonderful to hear because I know how hard our staff had worked for this evening and how many students supported the event.

Finally, I met with our Hot Chocolate Friday winners today who had secured their place either because they had 100% attendance in the last week or were top achievement point winners for their year group. Well done to: Evelyne, Tommy, Daisy, Sophie, Millie, OScar, Etty, Jake, Lucas and Ashton.

Have a lovely and safe weekend.
